For our next series, we’ll be exploring "The Art of Texture!" Artists will experiment with a variety of materials, tools, and techniques to discover how texture, pattern, movement, and dimension can bring artwork to life. We’ll explore both real and implied texture through hands-on creative processes, including: * Weaving * Printmaking * Painting * Collage * Mixed Media & More! Each week will offer a new opportunity to experiment, explore, and create while building artistic skill. Students will experiment with a variety of techniques while developing patience, problem-solving skills, and confidence in their artistic voice. This series is perfect for middle and high school artists who are ready to slow down, think intentionally about design, and create something unique. 6 sessions: October 13, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17 Make-up sessions available New: Ask about drop-in options: $35 per class, email: artnestvb@gmail.com Please fill out the attached Google form if this is your child's first time being dropped off at the studio. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5FSyFqzrQAe2mIdN6fhUkA7sTn8wsfge2w7NgxCJqti1TTg/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=102787997902068718122 About the instructor The Art Nest was inspired by founder Dacia Layton’s work as an occupational therapy educator and artist. Dacia has been a professor at Tidewater Community College for the past ten years, teaching in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. For the last eight years, she has taught a course called Therapeutic Media, which introduces OTA students to the use of arts and crafts as occupation-based activities to support performance skills, daily living, and overall quality of life. Through teaching this course and exploring the many ways art can be used therapeutically in occupational therapy practice, Dacia experienced the healing benefits of art personally. This journey led her to further explore the field of art therapy. She is currently in graduate school pursuing a degree in art therapy and counseling, with an expected graduation date in 2027.
