Service Description

Soaring Artists: Mosaic Exploration (Middle & High School) In this six-week series, teen artists will explore the art of mosaics through hands-on technique, design, and creative expression. We’ll begin with smaller skill-building projects, learning about pattern, color harmony, cutting techniques, and composition, before gradually working toward one larger, meaningful mosaic piece. Students will experiment with a variety of materials while developing patience, problem-solving skills, and confidence in their artistic voice. This series is perfect for middle and high school artists who are ready to slow down, think intentionally about design, and create something lasting and beautiful—one piece at a time. 6 sessions: March 3rd, March 20th, March 17th, March 24th, March 31st, April 14th. Make-up session: April 21st Please fill out the attached Google form if this is your child's first time being dropped off at the studio. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf5FSyFqzrQAe2mIdN6fhUkA7sTn8wsfge2w7NgxCJqti1TTg/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=102787997902068718122 About the instructor The Art Nest was inspired by founder Dacia Layton’s work as an occupational therapy educator and artist. Dacia has been a professor at Tidewater Community College for the past ten years, teaching in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program. For the last eight years, she has taught a course called Therapeutic Media, which introduces OTA students to the use of arts and crafts as occupation-based activities to support performance skills, daily living, and overall quality of life. Through teaching this course and exploring the many ways art can be used therapeutically in occupational therapy practice, Dacia experienced the healing benefits of art personally. This journey led her to further explore the field of art therapy. She is currentlly taking her 4th semester of graduate school pursuing a degree in art therapy and counseling, with an expected graduation date of May 2027.
